Art at Rowville Primary
The learning encompassed in the visual art program at Rowville is based on VELS and involves the dimensions of creating and making as well as exploring and responding. The creating and making aspect focuses on ideas, skills, techniques, processes and presentations.
At Rowville we use the following areas of art to develop these skills; painting, printing, collage, construction, modelling, drawing, threads and textiles. These may be introduced as individual projects or as part of a mixed media project. Also being introduced is the use of the computer in graphic presentations.
All these eight areas involve the children's imagination and allows for experimentation, planning and the application of skills, techniques and processes. The second dimension of exploring and responding focuses on context, interpreting and responding, criticism and aesthetics.
At Rowville this involves exploring the quality of art works, talking about the purpose of the works and the audience it was created for and developing and art language to express thoughts about art works that are personal but show informed judgements.
