Parent Involvement

We encourage parents and carers to be involved at Rowville Primary School. This may be by joining the Friends of Rowville Primary School, the School Council or simply as parent helpers.

Parents Helpers

At Rowville Primary School, we have a strong culture of community support. One valuable and much appreciated part of this is the help we receive from parents as helpers at sporting events, on the Beyond Boundaries Program, in the canteen, and on excursions. We greatly appreciate the gift of time.

School Council

All government schools in Victoria have a school council, which is a legal entity. School councils operate under the framework of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 and the Education Regulations 2007.

School Council is comprised of a combination of families, staff and community members. Their role is to provide good governance. This is through:

The review and update of school policies
Approve the annual budget and monitor expenditure
Enter contracts (e.g. maintenance, construction work)
Report annually to the school community and to DE
Stimulate interest in the school generally

Nominations for the School Council occur at the start of each school year.

Friends of Rowville Primary School (FORPS)

Friends of Rowville Primary School (otherwise known as FORPS) is a group of parents who provide invaluable support to the school in several ways, for example:

Organise welcome events for new students and parents at the school
Participate in the running of the second-hand uniform shop, Father’s Day and Mother’s Day stalls
Participate in discussion, plans and activities for fundraising (which require prior approval of the School Council), for example, Trivia nights, Discos, Raffles, The Walkathon, barbeques and Run for Fun Colour Explosion.
Promote cultural and social diversity by encouraging membership and participation of all parents in FORPS activities.
Through participation in FORPS, parents or guardians develop friendships within the school community
