Performing Arts
The Performing Arts program at Rowville Primary School teaches skills associated with music, dance and drama. The program is based on the Victorian Curriculum and provides students with the opportunity to engage the mind, the body and emotions into a collaborative expression of all that it means to be human. Through study of various published performers and performances, students explore and transfer various themes and ideas to their own performance.
Through our Performing Arts program our students discover their own voice and grow in confidence. They develop empathy and ethical insight. They grow in understanding of what it means to not only be human, but to be good, kind and compassionate.
At Rowville Primary School, skills in the performing arts disciplines are developed through creative collaboration where teamwork is encouraged through creating or during the act of performing. Students participate in a process of creative exploration where they learn to use verbal and non-verbal techniques in new ways to deliver their message.
Students learn by reflecting on their own and others performance work. Through this they gain valuable life skills by learning the importance of feedback, both positive and constructive. The Performing Arts program is a space for students to engage in self-reflection – a vital skill for life after school.
Our students engage in a variety of performance opportunities throughout the year. These include; regular performances at school assemblies, local shopping centres, community festivals, the annual Christmas concert and the annual school production involving our Year 5 and 6 students . These performances provide opportunities for students to gain experience as artists in practical situations. The Year 3 and 4 choir also perform in the production each year, which allows them to develop artistic skills and experience.
The performing arts program develops in students’ core 21st century skills.
