Performing Arts at Rowville Primary School
The Performing Arts program at Rowville Primary School teaches skills associated with music, dance, and drama. Aligned with the Victorian Curriculum, the program engages students’ minds, bodies, and emotions. It also encourages them to explore what it means to be human. Through the study of published performers and performances, students explore themes and ideas. They then apply these themes and ideas to their own performance.
Building Confidence Through Performing Arts
Through studying many performers and performances, students explore different themes and ideas. They apply these ideas to their own creative work. They learn to express themselves, communicate with others, and develop their skills through practical performing arts experiences.
At Rowville Primary School, students build performing arts skills through creative collaboration. Teamwork is encouraged while creating and performing. Students take part in creative exploration. They learn to use verbal and nonverbal techniques in new ways. They use these techniques to deliver their message. These experiences complement the wider learning opportunities available through the Rowville Primary School curriculum.
Learning Through Reflection and Feedback
Students learn by reflecting on their own and others’ performance work. Through this process, they gain valuable life skills by understanding the importance of both positive and constructive feedback. The Performing Arts program helps students reflect on themselves. This is an important skill. It supports learning and growth beyond school.
Performance Opportunities
Our students engage in a variety of performance opportunities throughout the year. These include regular performances at school assemblies. They also perform at local shopping centers. They perform at community festivals. They also perform at the annual Christmas concert. They perform in the annual school production. Our Year 5 and 6 students take part.
These performances provide opportunities for students to gain practical experience as artists in real-world performance situations. The Year 3 and 4 choir performs in the production each year. This helps students build artistic skills and gain performance experience.
Developing 21st-Century Skills
The Performing Arts program develops students’ core 21st-century skills through creative expression, collaboration, performance, reflection, and feedback.
These skills complement the broader Rowville Primary School curriculum and support students throughout their learning journey.
